NEBRASKA BMX REUNION AND HALL OF FAME DINNER

August 20-21, 2010 at the ABA Cornhusker National at Star City BMX in Lincoln, Nebraska

The pioneers of BMX racing in Nebraska are getting together for a long overdue and much anticipated reunion. Excitement is building as plans for the event and dinner are taking shape.

“With Nebraska’s first factory sponsored rider Doug Olson’s return to racing and ABA’s Cornhusker National located in Lincoln this year, it seems like the right time and place for us to reunite with old friends and celebrate our place in BMX history. We’re looking forward to this event and to see the old gang, many of them whom have contributed immensely to the foundation and growth of BMX racing not only in Nebraska, but also worldwide. Looking to the future, it is our long term plans to have this Nebraska BMX Hall of Fame ceremony continue with the addition of several well deserving people each year.”, said Tim Lillethorup, co-chairman of the Nebraska BMX Hall of Fame Committee.

We have been in contact with people from all parts of the country about this event and each time we contact someone the energy grows. Here are some of the highlights of the event.

Nebraska BMX Hall of Fame
When it came down to deciding who to honor the list was very long. We decided to start the Nebraska BMX Hall of Fame off this year by inducting each rider from the two original BMX racing teams in Nebraska – the Mr. Bike Team from Lincoln and the Bill’s Bicycle Barn Team from Omaha. We will also be honoring riders who raced in the PRO class during the first few years, the first track operators and parents and riders who have passed away. The focus this year is to honor those from 1975 – 1979. In years ahead we will pay tribute to those who followed through the 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s and beyond.

Trackside Pit Area and Vintage BMX Display
ABA and Star City BMX will provide a pit area where we can gather during the Saturday and Sunday national races. We will have a vintage Nebraska BMX display, along with a video playing, food and beverages. If you have your vintage race bike from the 70’s or 80’s, your jersey, number plate or any other memorabilia, you are welcome to display it during the event.

Dinner and Hall of Fame Ceremony
A dinner and ceremony will be held on Saturday August 21st at 7:00 pm at Valentino’s Restaurant. Valentino’s is located at 3457 Holdrege Street in Lincoln. There is a cost for the dinner of $13.00 per person. Tickets for the dinner can be purchased in advance by contacting Jerry Jensen at jjensen@nebraskabmxhalloffame.com.

Video
We are producing a video for the event including comments from riders and vintage BMX photos. This video will play at our Nebraska BMX Reunion tent at the race track and at the dinner on Saturday night.

If you raced BMX in Nebraska during the 70`s and 80`s we want you to attend. We welcome and would be honored to have vintage riders from other central states like Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa and Minnesota join us for this reunion. We all helped BMX grow in those early years.

Help us spread the word. Let’s get as many of us together as possible for this great BMX event!
