UCI Worlds Track Design Released!

Today, the UCI released the track design for the upcoming 2010 UCI BMX World Championships happening in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa July 29 – August 1. The track features two starting hills—the first of its kind, as far as BMXNEWS is aware of. On the right route, you have an amped-up Supercross track, complete with 10-meter (or so) starting ramp, totalling 1263 feet. On the left, a more tame, though way-technical-looking amateur lap, totaling 1163 feet. See below for the actual obstacle distances speced out by track builder extraordinare, …..Tom Ritz. The Elite side features a berm-jump and a 38-foot peak-to-peak first jump. Both tracks share a last straightaway.

No question that the UCI is stepping up the pace, and breaking new ground for future track designs. This takes it way beyond the tried-and-true “pro section,” and it is going to be interesting to see what future US-based tracks, especially the ABA Grands, may look like given this development.
