The pioneers of BMX racing in Nebraska are getting together for a long overdue and much anticipated reunion. Excitement is building as plans for the event and dinner are taking shape.

“With Nebraska’s first factory sponsored rider Doug Olson’s return to racing and ABA’s Cornhusker National located in Lincoln this year, it seems like the right time and place for us to reunite with old friends and celebrate our place in BMX history. We’re looking forward to this event and to see the old gang, many of them whom have contributed immensely to the foundation and growth of BMX racing not only in Nebraska, but also worldwide. I just received a letter in the mail today from the ABA, for track operators, stating that the ABA will use the “Random Gate” for all classes at all Nationals in 2011. This does not apply to local tracks, but if we want to start using that system in 2011, we can upgrade our existing system and purchase a 4 lights system from Cartessa.

Anyone interested in helping OmahaBMX raise the funds to make this switch for the 2011 season, please step up!

If  you finished in the top 10 in your district last year and get to sport a ABA district jacket, good new… they are done and will be shipping. Today, the UCI released the track design for the upcoming 2010 UCI BMX World Championships happening in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa July 29 – August 1. The track features two starting hills—the first of its kind, as far as BMXNEWS is aware of. On the right route, you have an amped-up Supercross track, complete with 10-meter (or so) starting ramp, totalling 1263 feet.
